De-fault World.
Debase Camp and the BRC-CC have returned home safely - after a grueling 24 hour drive.
Despite the worst sand storms I’ve ever seen, 2008 was a fine year and I have brought home many good memories. The combat club was a huge success and I owe thank you’s to many who helped in the default world and on the playa. I’ll try to compile those thank you’s later this week.
Photos from Saturday - most of Tuesday have been posted. I’ll try to get pics up from the rest of the week this weekend.
Sorry for the delay in getting this posted - default world sucked me back in without hesitation and dropped a giant to-do list in front of me.

Weather Report and Final Words
Just checked the weather report at Weather.com. Temperatures will range from 60-92 most days. During our MMA classes, in the sun, it should feel like 75-80 degrees. Given our giant shade structure, it should feel even cooler on our mats. Not too bad all things considered - so bring a gi too! ![]()
This is probably my last update. If anything else does come up, it will only be posted here, so keep checking back or sign up for updates.
We’ll be home soon and can’t wait to meet all of y’all!
Train hard, train safe!
Burn hard, burn safe!

Welcome to the BRC-CC!
The Black Rock City Combat Club aims to bring together martial artists and combat sport players of all styles and give them a place to train while at Burning Man. We also aim to share combat sports with the rest of the community and give those interested a first hand look at modern martial arts. Individuals of all ages and experience (you too beginners!) are welcome to participate, train, and share techniques.
Not only will be holding our mixed martial arts classes at the BRC-CC, but we have also opened our space up for use by other martial artists to hold classes.

Mixing Martial Arts and Fire Spinning
We have added another class. Tuesday the 26th, from 6pm-8pm, Nick Heyming has offered to teach a fire spinning class that incorporates martial art movements. Bring your staff, poi, or just you - see ya there!
No commentsThe class will cover basics of staff spinning, martial arts moves that can be integrated, different flow techniques, and some stretches that prepare the body for more advanced moves. There will be a light up afterwards for those who are ready for fire.
Nick has been spinning fire for over three years and practicing martial arts for over four. He has studied Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Capoeira, and invented his own form of Kung Fu animal style stretching. He spins fire staff and poi, with an emphasis on contact (hands free) spinning and integrating different martial arts and dance styles into his spinning. His tribe the Elemental Dancers is a loose organization of people attempting to find other elements than fire to play and dance with.

I just wanted to take a moment to send a heart-felt thank you out to the guys at De La O Jiu-jitsu! John De La O has loaned us 10×10 of matting, 3 pairs of punching mitts, a pair of thai pads, and several pairs of gloves to take out to the playa. Beginning Escrima via Knife Fighting
Blackfish will be teaching a beginning Escrima/Knife Fighting class on Wed. at 2:00pm. To hear him explain it…
Experience the basics of Escrima, a Philippine martial art, as they apply to knife fighting. We’ll start with footwork, move to angles, explore situationals, and finish with some light knife sparring. Bring a 9″ bit of wood dowel for your practice knife and gloves but we’ll have some on hand, and be ready to have some fun as you explore this very direct martial art.
See you there!
